The Scariest Movie Ever

The film that frightened me the most, in the moment, was "Rear Window". I saw it with a full theater of people who hadn't seen it before (it was embargoed over rights issues for decades). When Grace Kelly's character is in Raymond Burr's character's apartment, and Raymond Burr's character is coming home, you could feel the entire audience tense up. You could smell the fear chemicals in their sweat. It was a magical movie experience. We had all been tricked by James Stewart's character into projecting our consciousness into the movie. He was a powerless observer who cared about Grace Kelly's character. We were powerless observers who also cared. He was trapped in his room, unable to save her, unable to turn away, and we were trapped in a movie theater in the same circumstance. Our bodies pumped out adrenaline even though our minds new it was just a movie.
